The Earthquake - How to Help

Thanks so much to all of you who have asked us "How can we help?"

Donations for earthquake relief can be sent to us at:

Team Expansion Tokyo
1318 Alcorn Road
Port Orange, FL 32129

Checks should be made to Team Expansion, not us personally. We do receive 100% of the money. Please include a note indicating that the contribution is for "earthquake relief efforts" and we will make sure it is used for that purpose. We continue to need normal mission contributions also, and those can be sent to the same address. If you do not designate its use, we will use it wherever it is needed.

The situation is still very unstable. We do not recommend that anyone get on a plane now and show up hoping to go to the hardest hit areas. Japan has many professional rescue teams working here already and many more coming from other countries. At this writing, 100,000 Japanese army troops have been mobilized to do search and rescue.

At this time, we are not asking for physical donations (clothes, toilet paper, diapers, etc.)  Those resources are available here also - although there are temporary shortages. Stores in Tokyo should return to normal stock soon. If this situation changes, we'll let you know. A monetary donation can be used to buy supplies here in Japan, so it is the most effective way to help.

Definitely keep praying: for the hurting, the quake/tsunami/nuclear situation, and most importantly the spiritual needs here. On March 10th, Phil was in a meeting discussing missionary strategies. Someone mentioned that one of the biggest challenges to the gospel in Japan is that people do not sense their need for healing, or their need for Christ. Everyone agreed. Many people pride themselves on being self-sufficient. Almost exactly 24 hours later, the earthquake struck. Pray that this terrible disaster results in millions of people coming to know Jesus Christ! Pray that the church in Japan and the missionary community can show the love of Christ during the relief and restoration efforts.

Konnichiwa from the Kornegay family

If you love Jesus and you love Japan, you should know that most of the 129 million people who live here do not yet know Him as their Lord and Savior. Tokyo is one of the most populated metropolitan areas in the world. Japanese people are polite, proud and hard-working, and deserve to know that their Creator loves them.
Our family came to Japan 7 years ago to share the love of Christ. Our ministry consists of Kids Clubs for neighborhood kids, house church meetings, and teaching at the Christian Academy in Japan. Kim teaches Kindergarten and 4th grade; Phil teaches 9th and 10th grade Bible classes. Phil also preaches at a Japanese church twice monthly and serves as team leader for 3 Team Expansion families.
Thanks for stopping by to look. Please contact us if you have any questions!
